Congrats Antara !!!
Antara’s winning image ‘Breaking symmetry’ is the cover image for Journal of Cell Science’s Special Issue: Imaging Cell Architecture and Dynamics. The image shows a mouse embryonic fibroblast labelled with phalloidin (actin – green), acetylated tubulin antibody (magenta) and DAPI (DNA – blue). - LINK

Madhavan Jayakrishnan
Spent the summer in the lab from ASHOKA University. He worked towards optimising quantitative image analysis for studies by Antara in the lab. Was great to have you Madhavan !
Piyush and Prashanth
The lab also saw Piyush and Prashanth joining the lab for the summer and staying on to continue their work in the lab.
Welcome aboard !!
ICMR Grant
A one year extension to account for the time lost during COVID has allowed us to keep working on the ICMR grant to look at the AURKA-RalA crosstalk.
SERB-CRG Grant
The lab was funded with a SERB-RG grant for studying Cell-matrix adhesion-dependent Golgi organisation in normal and anchorage-independent cancers.
OMKAR, TARUN and NIKITA
from the lab all started their graduate school journeys in Turku, Utah and Vienna respectively. Wishing them the very best going forward.
Click on photo to know more about their current labs.
ARPITA
joined the lab for her Masters Thesis Dissertation from Fergusson College, Pune
SRIVATHSA, TUSHAR,
GRISHMA, MRIDUSHMITA
Joined the lab for for Semester Projects

Dr. SIDDHI INCHANALKAR - Congratulations on successfully defending your thesis !!!
With a Masters from DY Patil University, Siddhi studies Ras-AURKA-Ral crosstalk in cancers. She also works with the JK lab (IISER-Chem) to evaluate the delivery of AURKA inhibitor MLN8237 by nanovesicles. Siddhi is also an active doodler, and enjoys pencil charcoal painting and hopes to learn to play the violin some day.

Congratulations Natasha and Debasmita!
Their review looks at the role
phosphorylation of the tyrosine-14
residue (pY14Cav1) has in its function
in and out of caveolae. Cells that
experience significant mechanical
stress are seen to have abundant caveolae. They play a vital role in regulating cellular signaling and endocytosis, which could further affect the abundance and distribution of caveolae at the PM, contributing to sensing and/or buffering mechanical stress. Changes in membrane tension in cells responding to multiple mechanical stimuli affects the organization and function of caveolae. These mechanical cues regulate pY14Cav1 levels and function in caveolae and focal adhesions. This review, along with looking at the mechanosensitive nature of caveolae, focuses on the role of pY14Cav1 in regulating cellular mechanotransduction.

Congratulations Siddhi !!!
Siddhi from the lab just won the best poster award in the drug delivery category for her work on "Nanovesicle-Mediated Delivery of MLN8237(Alisertib) Preferentially Inhibits Aurora Kinase A To Target RalA and Anchorage-Independent Growth in Breast Cancer Cells" at the TCGA meeting. Considering she wasn't sure if she can present till the day before, this was very cool !! The lesson for all of us here was that you can really be winning an award if you don't present :-)
